I’ve read my fair share of books about Greek mythology. I mean, I did read all of the Percy Jackson series and The Heroes of Olympus. But this takes a whole new twist on half-bloods and demigods.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck. (From Goodreads)

I have one thing that definitely needs to be said about this book: WOW. Why did it take me so long to finally read this book?! Armentrout takes you on a nonstop adventure of action and, wait for it, romance.  The protagonist, Alexandria (Alex) Andros, is a great character. She has a great sense of humor and can even take the worst of things and turn them to be a little bit better. I don’t think I has laughed that much in a book in a long time.

Also, what I love most about Alex is that she’s flawed and acknowledges her flaws. In books, you get so many characters that are very flawed, but never realize it. (which is absolutely INFURIATING)

I think one of the many highlights of this book is Alex’s love interest: Aiden St. Delphi. (Actually, I think he’s the highlight of any girl who loves fictional boys.) Not only is he insanely hot, but he’s sweet and sometimes wonderfully nerdy. The forbidden love element between the two adds to the overall intensity of Aiden and Alex’s relationship. It just makes everything a little edgier.

All the characters in this book are amazing. The author even makes the extremely annoying characters (*cough*LEA*cough*) somewhat redeemable.

The action scenes are amazing, the conflict is absolutely heartbreaking, and the characters are fantastic. Half-Blood by Jennifer L Armentrout is a fast-paced story that never slows down and keeps the reader interested until the very end. This book is definitely a mandatory book to put on your TBR.
